Last year, UrbanTurf reported that the historic Takoma Theatre would house a behavioral health-focused outpost of Children's National Medical Center. Now, the building is renovated and we are learning who the other tenants will be.
Today, Rock Creek Property Group announced that Turning Natural and Lost Sock Roasters will join Children's Healthy Mind Brain Center as tenants of the 1920s-era theater at 6833 4th Street NW (map). This would be Turning Natural's sixth planned area location; the juice bar chain recently came under fire from DC's Office of the Attorney General for allegedly underpaying employees.
For Lost Sock Roasters, the Takoma location would be the small-batch coffee roaster's first brick and mortar location; however, the big news is that the roaster will also serve food from the recently-opened Call Your Mother café in Park View. Since opening last month, the shop has become infamous for consistently drawing lines of customers. The Washington Post also recognized Call Your Mother last month as offering the city's best bagels.
“Takoma Theatre serves as the southern anchor for the entire neighborhood commercial corridor and we could not be more pleased with the mix of tenants we have signed to activate the property and the street for everyone’s enjoyment and benefit,” Gary Schlager, Principal at Rock Creek Property Group, said in a statement.
Cunningham|Quill Architects is helming restoration of the theater, which is expected to open in late 2019.
Correction: The article previously misstated the name of the roastery; it has since been corrected.
