This week’s Best New Listings includes an expanded Brentwood bungalow, a Brookland farmhouse with an accessory building, and a modern Georgetown mansion fit for a socialite.

Updated Traditional in Brentwood

On a quarter-acre site over in Maryland's Brentwood, this brick bungalow has been expanded since its construction in the early 20th century. Past the front porch, the interior leads off with a traditional layout, with double exposure and a ceiling fan in the living room. At the back of the main level, a family room has a built-in media center opposite door-sized picture windows on either side of a door out to the pentagonal deck, along with a small playroom behind accordion doors. The kitchen is just around the corner, and there is also a bedroom and a full bath on the main level. Another three bedrooms share a bath upstairs, one of which has a pair of display recesses on two opposite walls. The lower level is split between a rec room and storage space, and the spacious backyard has garden and seating areas.

A Sculpture Garden and a Paper Cup Pool

A couple of steps off Wisconsin Avenue, this 9,000 square-foot mid-century modern mansion breaks with the typical trappings of its Georgetown neighborhood. Updated by Shinberg Levinas Architects, the property was previously owned by Hope Diamond-owner Evalyn Walsh McLean, and its current owners are art patrons who have curated an interesting collection on the grounds. The living room is the centerpiece on the main level, a floor-to-ceiling grid of windows on one side lifting up and opening to the terrace that houses a pool with paper cup-shaped fountain. Next to another floor-to-ceiling window grid on the other side of the living room, a door leads out to a courtyard and the sculpture garden. The owner's suite spans half the second level with a terrace framing all three sides, its bath on the other side of a partition along with a dressing room with built-ins and a walk-in closet. The two-car garage also has interior access to the ground floor, which includes two bedroom suites.

A Farmhouse with Accessory in Brookland

This Brookland farmhouse also offers a lot of living space indoors and outdoors, including a 300 square-foot accessory building with its own heating and cooling. Through paned french doors off the foyer, the house has a formal sitting room with a shallow bay window. A family room is just through a wide doorway, and the formal dining room has a decorative brick fireplace with exposed chimney. The kitchen has a farmhouse basin sink, white subway tile backsplash, quartz countertops, a pantry, and decorative tile floors. The upstairs landing has space for an office nook, and the en-suite bath for the spacious owner's bedroom has double vanities beside the pentagonal built-in shower stall. A lanai spans the side of the house on the main level, and the property also has a driveway, a shed, and a detached wooden deck.
