A proposed 72-unit condo development in Bethesda will have an art incubator on the ground floor, reported BethesdaNow.
As part of the project, which is going before the planning board next month, developer Starr Capital is proposing to allocate four ground-floor studio spaces to artists. The spaces would open up to an alley, which would create the possibility of an art walk. The space, which will total 2,000 square feet, will be dedicated to the county as a public amenity. The Bethesda Urban Partnership will be taking over management of the art studios.
The 17-story building, dubbed The Fairmont and located at the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Fairmont Ave (map), also includes 100 parking spaces over four stories and ground floor retail. Units will vary in size from 900 to 3,000 square feet, and many will have floor-to-ceiling windows. The complex is two blocks from the Bethesda Metro station.
The groundbreaking is estimated for 2015.
