Columbia Pike resident Jesse McLaughlin has won Apartment.com’s Roommate of the Year contest, Curbed DC has reported. As the winner of the annual contest, which started in late April with the goal of finding the country’s best roommate, McLaughlin will get “free rent” for a year (up to $10,000), plus an additional $10,000 spending money.
Contestants were required to submit a video of two minutes or less “illustrating what makes [them] America’s most desirable living companion.” There were four categories, one for those that like to keep things tidy and pay the bills on time (Loveable Compulsive), one for those who keep it green (The Environmentalist) or are pet-friendly and one for just being an all-around superstar roomie (fittingly, The All Star Roomie category).
McLaughlin, who is a security analyst, put together a video that showed his willingness to do chores like cleaning the dishes and the bathroom, as well as pay for pizza and make dessert.
While it was not in the same league (humor-wise) as the now-legendary Arlington rap video, UrbanTurf congratulates Jesse on his win.
