In yet another step forward for Anacostia, the Fendall Heights condo development had its ribbon cutting ceremony late last week, marking the first green condos constructed in Ward 8, DCmud reported.

The 29-unit complex at 2025 Fendall Street SE (map) will be complete by the end of June and units will be priced starting at $125,000. Two-bedrooms range in size from about 750 to 950 square feet and one-bedrooms start at 450 square feet. The affordable housing project is restricted to first-time buyers.
The project received a grant from the Department of Energy to fund installation of a green roof among other green enhancements. Here is a breakdown from DCmud:
The development team funded the installation of a living green roof to control surface run-off and reduce heat absorption for structure. Other green features include energy saving double-pane windows, pipes made of recycled plastic instead of copper and 100% energy efficient furnaces.
In addition to the green features, Fendall Heights also has a 3,000 square-foot community center attached to it that has a number of artist studio spaces.
