An office building one block from Union Station that counts US Citizenship and Immigration Services among its tenants is on the way to gaining a couple of stories and a rooftop venue.
Government Properties Income Trust and the RMR Group have filed a zoning application to add two stories and a 20-foot penthouse to the existing 8-story office building at 20 Massachusetts Avenue NW (map). Upon completion, the building would have three retail tenants, four stories of hotel rooms, and four stories of office beneath a "rooftop restaurant".

The rooftop venue could also include bar/lounge/nightclub uses, and/or could be used as an amenity or event space for the office or hotel. The building will retain 186 of its 187 below-grade parking spaces, and will add 66 bicycle spaces to reach the required 76. Leo A. Daly is the architect.
A zoning hearing has not yet been scheduled; the application also requires review by the Architect of the Capitol.
