Amazon is working on another way to get into your home.

Bloomberg reports that the company is developing a domestic robot that would presumably follow you around the house and operate similarly to (or perhaps integrate with) the Alexa system.

The robot project is code-named "Vesta", referencing the Roman goddess of the home. Amazon's Gregg Zehr and the company's research and development sector Lab126, also responsible for Fire TV boxes and Echo speakers, have been working on Vesta for a few years now.

This year, however, Amazon seems to be ramping up hiring for Lab126. "There are dozens of listings on the Lab 126 Jobs page for openings like “Software Engineer, Robotics” and “Principle Sensors Engineer”," the article notes.

"People briefed on the plan say the company hopes to begin seeding the robots in employees’ homes by the end of this year, and potentially with consumers as early as 2019, though the timeline could change, and Amazon hardware projects are sometimes killed during gestation," the article continues.

Thus far, however, prototypes of the robot reportedly operate similar to self-driving cars. Amazon isn't speaking on the record about this rumor.
