Plans are out for another DC park, this time reimagining an existing space.
The District Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) filed plans with the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) for a proposed renovation of the 0.86-acre park on the southwest corner of New Jersey Avenue and O Street NW (map). The park is currently sparsely furnished and also hosts a homeless encampment.
Based on feedback from nearby residents, the proposed redesign will include tables, seating to include gliding lounges and double-sided sculptural benches, "climbable" and artistic sculptures, and space for activities like farmer's markets and outdoor fitness classes and movies.

An open lawn area will be the park's central element. Bradley Site Design is the landscape architect.
NCPC will consider the development proposal in two weeks; if approved, the project could start as early as this fall for delivery late next spring.
