An outdoor bar is slated for a prominent Georgetown peninsula — and it may look familiar to anyone who has frequented Nationals Park in the past couple of years.

Suite Nation is working on bringing its Sandlot brand to Georgetown next year, at the former site of a gas station at 2715 Pennsylvania Avenue NW (map). Similarly to Sandlot Southwest-turned-Sandlot Southeast, Sandlot Northwest will have outdoor seating, a bar and restrooms retrofit out of shipping containers, and will host food trucks for its patrons.

Ian Callendar of Suite Nation, who tweeted the news earlier this week, shared with UrbanTurf that the Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID) connected him with EastBanc last year in the BID's quest to activate this and other vacant spaces in the neighborhood.

"We’re continuing our neighborhood model to repurpose with a purpose, creating convertible, flexible, community spaces centered around arts & culture," he explained. The Friends of Rose Park's Farmers Market will also relocate to the site once construction is done.

Rendering of the approved development.

The gas station was demolished in early 2018 to make way for a five-story boutique development by EastBanc and Willco. That Souto Moura Arquitectos-designed project and its seven residential units are on hold for the time being; EastBanc declined to offer a timeline for the development.
