A New Sandlot Will Come to Anacostia This Spring

The Sandlot brand continues to gain momentum.
After opening two commercial/cultural outdoor hubs last year in Georgetown and Tysons, Suite Nation is working towards launching its first Sandlot location east of the Anacostia River in the coming months. The 25,000 square-foot outdoor bar/event space will be sited at 633 Howard Road SE (map), activating a portion of what will be the multi-phase Bridge District development.
In an evolution of an initiative launched at the Sandlots last year, Sandlot Anacostia will include weekly live entertainment and will also incorporate the partnership with Uber Eats and DMV Black Restaurant Week that offered commercial kitchen space to Black-owned restaurants and chefs. Black-owned wine and spirits companies will also be integral to the offerings, as will a continued partnership with spirit company Beam Suntory. Suite Nation's Ian Callender shared that Sandlot Anacostia will have a "service bar area, seating area, entertainment area, [and a] culinary incubator area," in addition to another to-be-determined space.
Suite Nation created the first Sandlot in Buzzard Point in 2019 ("Sandlot Southwest") at the current site of the upcoming The Verge development; the second came in 2020 beside Nationals Park ("Sandlot Southeast"). The Sandlots have traditionally served as interim outdoor bar/event space at locations slated for future development.
Sandlot Anacostia is expected to open this spring; the Bridge District development team got zoning approval for the first phase across the street last month.
