A few weeks ago, news broke of an all-affordable development brewing for a block in Shaw. Now, more details are coming to the fore.

Nonprofit developer Manna and neighbor New Community Church are seeking to rezone a portion of the 600 block of S Street NW (map) across from the Wonder Bread factory, where Manna's satellite office is located. The resulting development would wrap the church and deliver 80 apartments and a new, three-story office space for Manna. PGN Architects is the designer.

The units would be affordable to households earning up to 30% and 60% of area median income, and there would also be some permanent supportive housing units. The development would also include 25 below-grade parking spaces. The façades of the rowhouses at 618 and 620 S Street will be incorporated into the new development.

ANC 6E voted unanimously to support the map amendment application at their meeting Tuesday evening.
