The plans for a large new residential project along East-West Highway in downtown Bethesda are coming into focus.
Earlier this year, Perseus TDC acquired the five-story, 65,000-square-foot office building at 4405 East-West Highway (map). The firm has now filed plans with Montgomery County for a 10-story, 350-unit apartment building at the address.
Approximately 15% of the units will be moderately-priced, there will be 193 parking spaces, and up to 12,000 square feet of "nonresidential uses will include either retail, child care or medical office use."

The design for the new development, courtesy of SK+I Architecture, is in the nascent stages, but the plans indicate that it will likely have an undulating "wave" aesthetic.
"The massing and articulation concept creates a simple, unified building that breaks up the length of the eastern façade and is unified by the 'wave' articulation that travels around the building. A vertical tower is proposed to break up the eastern façade to play off the 'wave' and connects the penthouse to the ground."
Construction on the 350-unit project will likely begin in 2024. The new development adds to the very long list of new development on the boards in and around downtown Bethesda.
