DC has been known as a city where the highest price tags for residential real estate belong to single-family homes. That just changed.
A penthouse at the Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown hit the market on Tuesday for $18 million, which is the most expensive asking price on record for a condo in Washington, DC. The condo is listed with Mark Lowham and Matt McCormick of TTR Sotheby's International Realty.

One of five penthouses at the Ritz-Carlton, the 5,500 square-foot condo is actually the combination of two units purchased in 2006 by philanthropist Michelle Smith, who died last year, according to The Wall Street Journal. Smith was the daughter of Robert H. Smith, who developed much of Crystal City.
In addition to 5,500 square feet of interior space, the condo has an 1,800 square-foot terrace with views of the Potomac. Smith invested approximately $20 million into the purchase, renovation and build out of the residence.
Based on UrbanTurf's research, the most expensive condo to sell in DC is a penthouse at the Wardman Tower in Woodley Park. The 4,400 square-foot residence sold for $8.4 million in 2017.
