Georgetown University has applied for design review of a new student housing building on a site owned by Gonzaga College High School. The university is proposing an 11-story building with 158 apartments, totaling 476 beds, above 1,950 square feet of retail. The 33,040 square foot site at 55 H Street NW (map) currently operates as surface parking.

As designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the U shaped building accommodates two existing easements from the high school and from the adjacent office building. Building amenities will include a rear courtyard with lounge area, pergolas, grills and a ping pong table, as well as a gym and theater/multipurpose room on the penthouse level. Each apartment will have its own kitchen, but each floor will also have communal lounge space and a larger shared kitchen.

The proposal would include five parking spaces, while 26 parking spaces would normally be required (a number already halved due to proximity to Metro). The building would also include rooftop solar panels and 104 long term bicycle spaces.

A zoning hearing is scheduled for December 12th.
